Rigid foams, as lightweight materials for cellular engineering, are divided into those with open and closed cells. Closed-cell foams provide greater stability, lower moisture absorption, and higher strength compared to open-cell foams. All types of foam are often used as a core in sandwich composites. Depending on the application, the foam may have a lower density for lightweight products or higher for heavy ones. Combinations of thermosetting foams are also possible.
